HORSHAM Rural City councillors have vowed to reopen Horsham's Roberts Avenue Kindergarten and Maternal Child Health Centre as soon as possible.
The council announced on January 27 it would close the kindergarten and maternal and child health buildings indefinitely, affecting 90 children booked in to three-year-old and four-year-old kindergarten programs.
The decision followed structural damage to buildings as a result of the drought, heavy rain last year and large trees.
Community and enterprise services manager Angela Murphy said a briefing session was scheduled for next week for council to consider its options.
Options included demolition or reconstruction of the centre.

Cr Mark Radford said the situation was a 'real lesson' for the council.
"We need to make priorities about budgeting and be a bit tighter in our thinking about what we need," he said.
"Something has desperately got to be done about these buildings - they are for little children.
"We have made some bold, hard decisions now, before there were any accidents, but now we need to look forward."
Cr Gary Bird said council needed to be proactive.
"There is priority funding worth $20,000 in our budget, but it just depends on who you ask as to what it should be spent on," Cr Bird said.
"We've known about our kindergarten for a while but there are hundreds just like it across Victoria.
"We need to talk to the Municipal Association of Victoria and try to get some state funding."
Cr David Grimble said he attended a parent information session last week and parents were understandably upset.
"Certainly the first half of the meeting was about how parents could send their children to kindergarten this year," he said.
"I personally would like to see a representation of how much it will cost to repair and get back on track."
Ms Murphy said the Roberts Avenue Maternal and Child Health Centre closed on Friday.
She said maternal and child health nurse Carolyn Baird had moved to the Bennett Road Maternal and Child Health Centre at 1H Bennett Road, Horsham, next to Bennett Road Kindergarten and the phone number would remain the same.
"The baby change facility issue is still being worked through," Ms Murphy said.
"Council will work closely with Horsham and District Kindergarten Association and the Roberts Avenue Kindergarten site committee to keep them informed and seek input."
