Minister for Health Daniel Andrews announced this week Wimmera Health Care Group would receive $10 million for a 20-bed sub-acute ward.
Mr Andrews said Stawell Regional Health would receive $3.5 million for a community rehabilitation centre from the National Health and Hospitals Network agreement between the federal and state governments.
Wimmera Health Care Group chief executive Chris Scott said the 20-bed ward would fill a significant service gap in the Wimmera by providing patients with access to inpatient rehabilitation services without travelling to Melbourne or Ballarat.
He said the geriatric evaluation and management and physical rehabiliation teams would use the centre to deliver physiotherapy, mobility improvement, dietary and speech therapy.
"We have a community rehabilitation centre which Stawell has been promised but that is an outpatient service, so a sub-acute inpatient service will really strengthen community rehabilitation in the region," he said.
"It's clear the region certainly needs what we call a level three rehabilitation centre to allow residents to be treated closer to home."
Mr Scott said government representatives had advised the group projects would be rolled out as quickly as possible after the federal election if Labor remained in power.
"But I would hope all sides of government would support the establishment of these services going forward," he said.
Stawell Regional Health chief executive Peter Edwards declined to comment on the election promise.
