Father and son electrocuted in farm accident

A father and son were killed after a tractor moving an eight-metre windmill across a paddock clipped a 12,500 volt single powerline about 11.45am west of Rainbow.

The father, aged in his 60s, and his son, aged in his 40s, died at the scene.

Another father, 60, and son, aged in his 30s, sustained burns to hands and feet trying to rescue the men.

The two men walked some distance to a road to raise the alarm.

They were treated at the scene before being flown by helicopter to Horsham and then fixed-wing aircraft to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.

Another person, the property owner, was treated for cardiac problems at the scene.

Police, ambulance and CFA services gathered at the scene on the Nhill-Rainbow Road, about 20 kilometres west of Rainbow.

A fire at the scene has been brought under control after burning the tractor and surrounding paddock.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman confirmed two people were found dead at the scene.

The Ambulance Victoria spokesman said the older of the two injured man was more seriously hurt.

The Ambulance Victorian spokesman said the incident site was accessible only by four wheel drive.

Worksafe officers have just arrived at the scene.

Energy Safe Victoria staff will also attend.
