Dorothea Eldridge, 44, of Wavell Street, pleaded guilty in Horsham Magistrate's Court on Wednesday to having exceeded the prescribed blood-alcohol concentration.

Police prosecutor Constable Belinda Ryan told the court Eldridge left a Stawell residence, where she had consumed four UDLs and a small amount of wine mixed with orange juice, at 2am on November 7, 2007.

On her way home, at 2.30am, she lost control of her vehicle, swerving left and travelling on gravel for 25 metres.

Eldridge corrected her vehicle before swerving off the road into dense vegetation.

Constable Ryan said the vehicle overturned and spun 180 degrees before coming to rest on its right side, trapping Eldridge inside.

Police located Eldridge at 3.15am. Emergency services and an ambulance also attended the scene.

Const Ryan said a blood sample, taken from Eldridge in hospital at 5.05am, revealed a blood-alcohol reading of 0.104.

Eldridge told police during an interview on March 3, 2008, she must have hit either a kangaroo or a truck tyre.

Defence solicitor Nick Lucas said his client thought she was under 0.05 and had little recollection of the crash.

He said Eldridge was on a `huge amount' of medication at the time for health problems including depression, anxiety, migraines and back problems.

"She hasn't driven since the incident, she has been too scared and nervous," Mr Lucas said.

Magistrate Andrew Capell recorded a conviction and ordered Eldridge to pay $62.80 statutory costs in addition to the $500 fine.

"Sometimes people die in road crashes, sometimes they don't," Magistrate Capell said.

"It depends which way the coin drops. This time the coin dropped your way."
