WIMMERA Department of Sustainability and Environment staff are prepared to battle the elements during summer.
The department's district fire manager Lauren Todman said two reconnaissance aircraft were on standby at the weekend and would continue to be on standby throughout the summer.
"We have pre-formed incident management teams, including a team of 12 in the department's office in Horsham," Mrs Todman said.
"We can also call on Parks Victoria staff if required and we work closely in a multi-agency approach with CFA District 17 and Victoria Police."
Mrs Todman said even though the weather was hot, current conditions did not have underlying dryness and strong winds like the Black Saturday bushfires.
"There is a bit more moisture in the ground and although the fuel load is dry and will burn, it's not like during the 10 years of drought we had," she said.
Mrs Todman said the department staffed four fire towers during summer - on Mt Arapiles, Big Hill at Stawell, Mt Bepcha near Rocklands Reservoir and Reids Lookout in the Grampians National Park.
She said there were also an additional 42 project fire-fighters employed over summer and autumn to help with fire prevention and controlled burns.
"The project fire-fighters are based in Horsham, Wail, Halls Gap, Edenhope and Cavendish," Mrs Todman said.
"They are strategically located for a quick response and the fire towers can also help give us a bearing of where a fire might be."
Mrs Todman said three fixed-wing fire bombers were based at Stawell, as well as a water bombing helicopter.
"We have ramped up operations to be well equipped to deal with a fire," she said.
