FORMER Horsham High School teacher Margot Smith has thrown her weight behind the Rebuild Horsham College campaign.
Mrs Smith taught home economics at the school from 1974 to 1990 and her husband Keith taught maths and science from 1969 to 1989.
Mrs Smith is a former pupil of the school, while Mr Smith is a former deputy principal.
"Much has changed in that time," Mrs Smith said.
"Lots of buildings that were there when I was at school were knocked down and rebuilt, but lots went up during the 1950s which are still there today.
"I have visited the home economics centre since I retired and I don't think portables will suit the needs of teachers and students when the centre is demolished.
"Portables are only temporary and not the most satisfactory buildings to teach in.
"They are also not as well equipped as permanent buildings."
Mrs Smith said her four children Andrew, Michelle, Rowan and Rachel had attended the school, as did daughter-in-law Alison.
Grand-daughter Olivia Smith, 13, is a current student and has just started year eight.
"Olivia had a wonderful first year at the school last year," Mrs Smith said.
"But in terms of the buildings, she is not as impressed.
"Many students will 'hold on' all day rather than use the school's toilets in the condition they are in."
Mrs Smith said Horsham students deserved better.
"Keith agrees with me that it's a shame to have let it all get to this stage," she said.
"It's time to rebuild."
