HORSHAM Special School needs donations to build its new start-of-the-art school.
The school received $7 million in the State Government budget in May for the new school.
However, school council president Max Cuddihy said the school required hundreds of thousands more dollars to complete the ideal school it designed last year.
He said parts of the plans were being revised to fit the budget, including forgoing a bus shelter which would cost $109,000.
Electronic doors, a walled garden and a staff room that could double as a multi-purpose room are also being altered or axed from the plans.
Mr Cuddihy said to complete the original plan would cost $500,000 or more over budget.
He said building relocation onto a current Horsham College site would cost $900,000 of the $7 million.
He said almost $5.2 million would go towards constructing the new building.
"There are also architectural fees, plus the building inspectors and the building operators,'' he said.
"Because of the soil problems in Horsham there's a couple of thousand allowed for unexpected costs.
"If that's not spent then there are other things it can cover.''
Mr Cuddihy said the school also needed to purchase furniture, plus computer systems worth $125,000.
He said the school council set up a fundraising committee to help with costs.
"We're going to go through anthropological trusts and government grants,'' he said.
Mr Cuddihy said people could call principal Matt Copping on 5381 1475 to donate.
He said the old school building demolition would happen between terms one and two next year.
He said Ballarat's Resicare Builders won the tender to build the new school, on a site of 1.4 hectares.
The current school is on .4 hectares.
Mr Cuddihy said the special school building would be finished in early 2013.
