HORSHAM Rural City councillors reflected on the Black Saturday bushfires at Monday night's council meeting.
Yesterday was the third anniversary of the horrific fires which killed 173 people and destroyed 2029 houses across Victoria.
Cr David Grimble, who was the incident controller at a 64-hectare fire at Brimpaen on Saturday, said the fire season was very much alive.
"It is still keeping people on their toes," he said.
Cr Mark Radford said during his annual leave his family took the opportunity to visit areas razed by the Black Saturday bushfires.
"I went on a visit to Kinglake and there is certainly a long way to go," Cr Radford said.
"Obviously Marysville has been a big focus and so it should be, but Kinglake was also affected.
"On the topic of Black Saturday, I was talking to a Haven woman at the weekend and she is actually more scared this fire season.
"The fires certainly had and continue to have a direct impact on our community."
Mayor Mandi Stewart agreed with Cr Radford.
"Black Saturday is still hurting people in our community," she said.
"My one big memory of the fires is telling my daughter that if you're going to be in a fire, the Wimmera is the place to be.
"Sometimes nature is bigger than us, but fire-fighters and other volunteers will get the job done and we thank them for that."
