Speaking at the conclusion of his European tour, the singer- songwriter told the Mail-Times this week his plans to install a bronze statue of himself, semi- naked atop a rearing horse, in his hometown were true.

Rumours of the plans have made headlines worldwide since the story first surfaced seven years ago, but according to Cave, the statue is virtually set in stone.

He said the sculpture would resemble a small-scale model by British sculptor Corin Johnson which was exhibited at the Victorian Arts Centre in Melbourne.

Cave said all that was left to do was find a way to fund the $60,000 project.

"I am looking for a wealthy benefactor who would be interested in investing in an historical monument that will make Frank Rusconi's Dog on the Tuckerbox pale by comparison," he said.

"Other options might include a benefit concert in the Wimmera."

Cave also plans to attend the unveiling of the sculpture and said his Australian representatives were already looking for a place for him and his guests to stay.

"I've probably jumped the gun a little but have already invited various friends in the entertainment world," he said.

"Russell Crowe, my mate, has promised to attend. Snoop Dogg, a rapper, says he'll come if they let him into the country. Kylie Minogue said she wouldn't miss it for the world; she even promised to wear her gold lame hot pants."

Cave said during his world travels people had asked him about Warracknabeal and the statue and had expressed their desire to visit the site.
