Man charged after police officer rammed

06 Jul, 2009 12:56 PM
POLICE have charged a man, 42, after a police officer was rammed by a car at Dimboola on Thursday afternoon.

Sergeant Dale McIvor of Horsham said the Dimboola man was charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, assault and dangerous driving.

He said the incident occurred when a police officer attended a job in Victoria Street about 3.30pm on Thursday where an intoxicated man was wielding a baseball bat.

``The police officer managed to relieve the man of the bat and was talking to him on a nature strip when the 42-year-old man drove towards both parties attempting to injure the civilian,'' Sgt McIvor said.

``The vehicle struck both of them and the civilian was carried about 10 metres by the car.

``Both the officer and civilian were treated for minor injuries.''

The man was released on bail to appear at Horsham Magistrate's Court on August 26.

Police are continuing inquiries into the incident with the bat-wielding man but are yet to lay any charges against him.
