WIMMERA police have praised the behaviour of visitors at 'Live at the Lake' festivities at the weekend.
The community event at Lake Hindmarsh began on Friday and ended on Sunday.
Police estimate about 2000 people attended. It marked the return of water to the region's lakes after years of drought and also thanked volunteers who helped during the January 2011 floods.
Leading Senior Constable Graham Blair of Jeparit police congratulated the event's organising committee.
"It was an extremely well-run event and all in all, it was great for everybody there," he said.
"People's behaviour was excellent - there was BYO alcohol - except for one or two Wallies."
Horsham Highway Patrol Acting Sergeant Heath Martin said highway patrol officers were generally happy with the behaviour of road users going to and from the event.
During the three-day event, police fined a Dimboola man, 18, $489 for disorderly behaviour and removed him from the lake area.
The man was not drunk but was behaving inappropriately.
Police also served a defect notice on the owner of a car parked at the lake. The car had bald tyres.
Horsham Highway Patrol officers caught a man on Friday at 7.55pm, who was driving at 136 kilometres an hour in a 100kmh zone.
The Ardeer man, 24, was headed to Lake Hindmarsh. Police fined him $397 and suspended his licence for one month.
Police also caught a Warracknabeal man, 22, drink-driving without a seatbelt at Arkona on Sunday.
