THE Roberts Avenue Kindergarten program at alternative Horsham venues will start a week later because of the kindergarten's last-minute closure.
Horsham Rural City Council closed the kindergarten and maternal and child health buildings a fortnight before children were due to start.
The buildings' roofs, walls and footings were damaged by the drought, heavy rain and large trees.
About 100 parents sought answers from the council and Horsham District Kindergarten Association on Tuesday night.
The council has come under fire from parents because of the late timing of the decision, and parents being unaware of the kindergarten's dire condition until now.
Horsham District Kindergarten Association early years manager Shirleen Greening said the Roberts Avenue Kindergarten program would be delayed until the week of February 13 to complete paperwork for the Department of Education and to relocate equipment.
Mrs Greening said all 90 children, from the three-year-old and four-year-old kindergarten programs, would be offered a place at alternative venues.
"We gave the parents two options and took into account everyone's opinions about the options. We also considered the opinions of our staff,'' she said.
A Monday and Wednesday program will run at Horsham North Kindergarten and another program will be at Wimmera Uniting Care occasional care facility on Tuesday and Thursday.
The two groups of three-year-old children will be at the Wimmera Uniting Care venue on Monday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon.
"A lot of people had chosen Roberts Avenue Kindergarten intentionally because of the ease of transport,'' Mrs Greening said.
"We've accepted expressions of interest from people who need to change kindergartens because of work days, transport access and family issues.''
