HORSHAM Rural City Council will meet Pimpinio community representatives to discuss road safety following a fatality on the Western Highway on December 23.
Reg Luy, 68, was crossing the Western Highway at Pimpinio to see friends when he was struck by a car.
Horsham police said the death was an accident and the Horsham driver was not charged.
Council's technical services manager David Eltringham said council had received several requests from people for council to implement speed restrictions at Pimpinio as a result of the incident.
He said speed limits were set by VicRoads, which meant the Western Highway, as a national and state highway, was entirely at VicRoads' discretion.
"I understand that Pimpinio residents' approaches to VicRoads have not been successful in reducing the speed limit from 80 kilometres an hour to 60kmh," Mr Eltringham said.
"Notwithstanding that, council can assist with other measures at Pimpinio, including lighting, signs and pedestrian control points to encourage safe crossing."
Mr Eltringham said it was important for council to meet Pimpinio residents.
"It may be appropriate for a community representative, including Sharee Porter, who has been active on the pedestrian safety issue, to meet with council either on site or at a community consultative evening," he said.
"In the interim, we will continue to discuss the issue with VicRoads.
"The issue will also be placed on the RoadSafe Wimmera agenda."
