A Facebook group pushing Horsham Rural City Council to buy a new home for the business had 572 members by late yesterday, many of whom had posted messages of support for the proposal.
Administrator and Natimuk mother of two Fiona Blair said she was optimistic the show of support would convince council to take action before Kids Capers closed on August 16.
Mrs Blair has distributed petitions to Kids Capers, Natimuk Milkbar and Healthwise Pharmacy in Horsham Plaza urging council to purchase a new venue.
The business is for sale after the building, on the corner of McPherson and Hamilton streets, was sold to a furniture business.
"Now that people are aware of the situation and the word is out there, I am sure support will continue to grow," she said. "We are encouraging people to continue signing the petitions and we will have to wait and see what happens."
Messages of support from the Facebook page:
Jim Langlands: What sad news! Our family has enjoyed many hours of fun together on weekends, as well as regular Tuesday mothers groups. We have also taken family and friends there from other towns, and their response has also been great. Please consider the needs of families with young children. Their safety should be a priority.
Jennifer Hopper: Where else can mums, dads and friends go and have a cuppa and chat while the kids are safe and happy for hours no matter what the weather. Please consider our families' needs.
Alison Darby: There is a group of us from St Arnaud who travel over during the holidays for a day out. We always take the kids to Kids Capers, please don't close down.
Cindy McDonald: The Horsham Rural City Council would be doing Horsham and surrounding areas a great disservice if they let this awesome place close down. How about you councillors listening to your ratepayers and doing something about the things that are important to the people you represent. The people duly elected you to provide for their needs in their community and this is a need.
Wendy Aston: How can the best place in Horsham close down?! Where will us grown-ups go to enjoy a coffee while the kids run around?
