Leading Senior Constable Alan Perry of Horsham Traffic Management Unit said Mr McClure, 60, lost control of his 1987 Cobra replica while travelling east on a straight section of Three Bridges Road near Horsham about 2pm on Saturday.
The vehicle rolled and hit a table drain, about 130 metres west of Walsh's Road.
Lead Sen Const Perry said Mr McClure died at the scene and a passenger Phil Collins, 31, was taken to Wimmera Base Hospital for observation before being released on Saturday night.
Mr Collins is the fiance of Mr McClure's youngest daughter Sarah.
Sen Const Perry said no other vehicles were involved and police were investigating the cause of the accident.
Mr McClure is survived by his wife of 37 years Barbara and their four children, Simon, 35 and his wife Michelle, Rachel, 32 and her husband Luke, Nathan, 29 and Sarah, 24, and six grandchildren.
Barbara McClure said she would greatly miss her husband.
"Robert was a retired farmer from Mitre who lived to work," she said.
"He loved to volunteer and was involved in many community organisations.
"We retired to Haven two years ago and he had been enjoying his retired life.
"He was a committed Christian, attending Horsham Church of Christ, whose passionate faith was evident as he touched many people's lives through his love and concern for those with needs.
"His loving and caring nature will be missed by all family members and friends."
Mrs McClure said along with his family, the Cobra was her husband's pride and joy.
"He gained so much pleasure from driving it," she said.
Mitre Uniting Church parish member James McCredden said the parish was saddened by Mr McClure's death.
"Robert was always caring about others," he said.
"This loss will affect the whole community."
Mr McCredden said Mr McClure had been a communion steward, a member of the parish council, an elder, a member of the property board as well as being involved in outreach programs.
Mitre Fire Brigade captain Graham Lear said Mr McClure had been a long-serving member of the brigade.
"He was a very committed member and always made himself available when we needed him," he said.
