HORSHAM Police used capsicum spray to subdue two Wimmera men fighting in the Horsham central business district yesterday morning.
Sergeant Dale McIvor of Horsham said police had to separate a Horsham man, 23 and a Goroke man, 21, for brawling in Wilson Street at 2.30am.
"The men had been separated by police after an altercation, but the two men continued to fight," Sgt McIvor said. "We had to deploy capsicum spray and both men were arrested and brought back to the station."
Sgt McIvor said the men each received a $489 penalty notice for riotous behaviour.
"While we were at the scene trying to control the men, a number of people were asked to move on and away from the area," he said.
"An Armidale woman, 29, was issued with a $244 penalty notice for contravening a police direction to move on.
"If people are being sticky beaks while police are trying to do their job and keep an area safe, there are consequences."
Sgt McIvor said a Grovedale man, 20, was arrested at 4.20am for being drunk.
He was also given a $489 fine.
"I'm very disappointed with the behaviour of some people," Sgt McIvor said.
"The message is, if you're going to go to licensed premises and misbehave and come to the notice of police, you will cop a hefty fine.
"By all means go out and have fun, but please realise that police do have a job to do and people who stick their noses in make things harder for themselves and for us."
