WIMMERA fans of pop star Michael Jackson were shocked by his death of a heart attack on Friday morning.
Annie Brack of Horsham said she woke to the news Jackson had died and was devastated.
Miss Brack, 18, said she had been obsessed with the King of Pop since she was 13 and had always been surrounded by his music.
"I grew up listening to Michael Jackson because of my older brothers," Miss Brack said.
"My mum has always joked I could moonwalk before I could crawl. I know all the words and dances to his songs.
"I own every CD and DVD he ever put out and I have a wall dedicated to him in my room."
Miss Brack said she refused to believe Jackson had died until it was officially confirmed by the hospital.
"I sat there and watched all the coverage and when they confirmed he had died I burst into tears," she said.
"I received a lot of text messages from friends and a group of my friends took me out for lunch to take my mind of it."
Miss Brack said she hoped people remembered the King of Pop for his pivotal role in the music industry, not for the media circus which surrounded his life.
"I believe he is the last of the music legends, no-one will ever have an effect like he did," she said.
Leading Edge Horsham music store owner Graeme King said by lunchtime on Friday half a dozen people had already visited the Firebrace Street store looking for Jackson items.
"Most of the people who came in looking for his music wanted to show their children who he was," Mr King said.
"Or they were wanting to relive that time in their life when Michael Jackson really was king, it was a trip down memory lane for a lot of people.
"I think people are sad he is gone, he was a great musician, but the people we have seen aren't buying the music as an outpouring of grief, they just want to remember the music."
Mr King said his Horsham Plaza store had also sold more Jackson CDs than normal.
"We had around six or seven sold in the plaza as well, you might sell one a day normally, so there was definitely an increase," he said.
"He will definitely be rich again and I can see Thriller coming back in a big way."
