KALKEE footballer Steve Schultz has been named in the All-Australian team after an outstanding performance at the Australian Country Football Carnival in Canberra.
It is the Horsham District league player's second All-Australian honour.
He was also named in the team in 2008.
Schultz was named as ruck-rover.
He was on the interchange bench the first time he was selected.
"This is by far the best individual honour I've had in football," Schultz said. "To be named in the midfield of the side is a real honour.
"It tops the best and fairest awards I've won."
Schultz, the only Victoria District player named in the side, didn't expect to be selected.
"It was a good surprise and topped off a good weekend," he said.
The team was announced after the carnival's grand final, won by Victoria Major, at Manuka Oval on Sunday.
Greater Western Sydney coach and AFL legend Kevin Sheedy presented Schultz with his All-Australian jumper.
"Kevin was handing out the jumpers and he shook my hand and said congratulations. I didn't get a chance to talk him though," he said.
Schultz's Victoria District side won one of its eight matches at the three-day carnival.
"It was still a really good experience. The standard of football was unbelievable,'' Schultz said.
"We had a really good opening day even though we only won one of our four matches, but we were competitive against every side and only got done by the top teams by a goal or two."
Schultz said the Victoria District side was the only team who played four matches on the opening day of the three-day competition.
"It showed our fitness levels were not quite up to some of the major league players," he said.
"It was pretty strenuous on the old body. I'm not used to playing that many games in that amount of time."
Schultz's Kalkee team-mates Josh Mibus and Grant Schultz, Pimpinio's Daniel Baker and Hopetoun's Marcus Burdett were also members of the Victoria District side.
Wimmera Football Umpire Association's Cameron Pickering officiated at the carnival.
