A LEADING Wimmera football development manager believes there will be a strong contingent of Wimmera players in the North Ballarat Rebels next year.
Wimmera AFL development manager Geoff Burdett said he was confident there would be a strong representation after several underage players made regular appearances for the Rebels in 2009.
"We had Jake Ward, Nathan Kelly, Michael O'Callaghan, Martin Dufty, Tom McDonald, Pat Barber and Lucas Cook play for the Rebels," Mr Burdett said.
"James Kirby was also on the list, and they are all players I would expect to get a lot of games.
"Then I would say that Riley McFarlane would be a good chance.
"The there are the likes of Sebastian Ross, Rory Taggert, Coleman Schache and Callum Hobbs as well as a number of other players in the region."
Mr Burdett said the Rebels squad for the 2010 season had started at 150 and had already been trimmed to about 130.
He said the list would continue to be trimmed in the lead-up to the season, with final squads likely to be announced late in February.
Mr Burdett said there would be a testing session on January 20 and practice matches in February including a practice match against Bendigo Pioneers at St Arnaud.
The 2010 TAC Cup season will start on March 27.
The Rebels were knocked out of finals contention in 2009 losing to Calder Cannons by 97 points in the second semi-final.
