Peter MacFarlane to return to Dimboola for 2012 season

01 Feb, 2012 09:22 AM
DIMBOOLA has wooed two-time Toohey Medallist Peter MacFarlane back to the club for the 2012 Wimmera Football League season.

MacFarlane last played for the Roos in 2008.

He is captain of St Mary's in the Northern Territory Football League.

Dimboola coach Gary Davidson said MacFarlane would be based in Darwin.

"He'll play half to two thirds of the season," Davidson said.

"Ideally we'd love people here training with us all the time but it's hard to recruit for the centre half forward area.

"After looking extensively, it's great we were able to get 'Noodles'."

Davidson said the ruckman-cum-forward was a strong addition to the Roos, who want to build on their fourth place finish from last season.

"In the past couple of years we've lacked in the key position area and haven't been able to put scoreboard pressure on the opposition," Davidson said.

"He had a major impact on the club last time. He is highly regarded around the place, not just for his football ability but for his leadership and commitment to the team.

"He has a very good rapport with people at the club."

MacFarlane joins St Arnaud's Nigel Sibson and Jeparit-Rainbow's Luke Byrne as additions to the Roos' list.

Sibson had previously played for Wimmera league club Horsham United.

"He is super fit and does a lot of extra work," Davidson said.

Davidson said Byrne was a tall defender who would complement recruit Matt Magee, Alex Hill and Josh Cook.

"Defensive-wise we have quite a bit of depth," Davidson said.

Davidson said Dimboola was determined to better its 2011 campaign which ended with straight sets finals defeats.

"It was really disappointing to lose both finals games," Davidson said.

"As much as we'd made a lot of ground, going from second last to third in the home and away season, it was soured because we did not compete well in the finals."
