Wimmera and Horsham District leagues announce naming rights sponsors

22 Feb, 2012 08:46 AM
WIMMERA and Horsham District football leagues have announced their respective naming rights sponsors for the 2012 season.

Wimmera Football League has signed a three-year deal with Bendigo Bank, while Horsham District League has extended its association with Agritech Rural.

Western Vic Football manager Steve McQueen said the Wimmera's naming rights deal was the largest single sponsorship deal in the league's history and would not impact on any exisiting club sponsorships with Bendigo Bank.

The partnership will see Bendigo Bank, Rupanyup-Minyip Community Bank Branch and Dimboola and District Community Bank Branch join forces as the new naming rights sponsor of the Wimmera league.

Wimmera league chief commissioner John Smith said he was thrilled with the partnership.

"It means the ability to expand our operations and put it towards every aspect of football and netball," he said.

"Wimmera Football League is poised at this point to move forward and a major sponsorship with Bendigo Bank indicates the support of the corporate sector."

Bendigo Bank's regional manager for Ballarat and Wimmera Simon Cornwell said he was excited Bendigo Bank could contribute to grass roots football.

"We believe country football helps to form the heart and soul of a community,'' he said.

Agritech Rural has been Horsham District league's major sponsor for the past three seasons.

Principal owner and business manager Darryl McCrae said Agritech Rural was pleased to continue its association with the league.

"We've just finished a three-year deal and we're happy to extend it for a further 12 months," he said.

"The deal has worked fantastically for the league and its clubs."

Mr McCrae explained that under the agreement, the league and clubs could receive extra sponsorship by purchasing fertiliser through his business.

He said people who bought fertiliser could nominate league clubs at the time of purchase, which would see that club receive a sponsorship bonus.

"The challenge is for clubs to get the message out to their farming communities to get behind this deal and make it work for all parties," Mr McCrae said.

"There is a lot of incentive for clubs to do it."

The Horsham District season starts on March 31 and Wimmera league begins on April 21.
