A BIG day of go-kart action is on the cards at Dooen Raceway for round one of the Victorian Country Series tomorrow.
More than 220 drivers have entered the event, which will provide for go-kart drivers of all ages.
Wimmera Kart Racing Club secretary Mark Cottrell said this year's race field had dwarfed last year's 176 drivers.
``We have had a big increase this year,'' he said.
``We have upgraded the track for this year's event.
``We have laid about 90 metres of asphalt on the track because it was very bumpy.
``We got the word out to all the kart websites that we had upgraded the track and I think that has been the difference.''
Cottrell said the upgrade had attracted a number of drivers including six-time Australian champion Remo Luciani of Horsham.
``Remo hasn't raced in our event for years,'' Cottrell said.
``So it is great to have him back.
``He will race in the senior clubman category.''
Races on the day include the midgets, children aged 7-11; rookies, children aged 9-11; juniors, children 11-16; and senior national, senior clubman and clubman for drivers aged over 40.
Cottrell said a highlight of the day would be the leopard heavy and leopard light categories.
He said Wimmera hopefuls included Mike Seeary and Owen Perry in leopard light and Kelvin Crane in leopard heavy.
Cottrell said the most popular section would be the clubman section.
He said admission was free and canteen facilities would be available.
Cottrell said people should refer to www.wimmerakartclub.com.au for more information.
