Horsham to host Sports Expo on Sunday

10 Feb, 2012 08:31 AM
WIMMERA Regional Sports Assembly executive officer David Berry hopes to see a big crowd at Sunday's Horsham Sports Expo.

Mr Berry believes the expo, which showcases a range of Wimmera sports and organisations, is the first of its kind for the region.

"We're really excited about it," he said. "We'd love to see a lot of people there.

"If you've got nothing better to do on a Sunday, why not come along and find out about the different sports in the region."

The expo is at Horsham Basketball Stadium from 10am to 2pm.

Mr Berry said the assembly targeted sports that would soon be starting their seasons and could use the expo as an alternative to come and try days.

He said information on sports, including basketball, volleyball, netball, table tennis, squash, hockey, badminton, football, tennis and croquet would be available, with many sporting groups hosting demonstrations on the day.

Organisations, including WestVic Academy, Wimmera Football League umpires group and North Ballarat Rebels will also attend, along with business Horsham Sports and Leisure.

Horsham Yacht Club and Horsham Motor Sports Club will have displays at the front of the stadium.

Mr Berry said the response from associations, clubs, organisations and businesses had exceeded the assembly's expectations.

"It's a really good opportunity for people to find a lot information in the one place," Mr Berry said.

Horsham Badminton Association life member Ray Wickham believes the expo is a fantastic initiative for the Wimmera.

Mr Wickham said his association would have a stand with information and a demonstration at the expo.

He said there would also be the opportunity for people to try the sport.

"It should be a great day, hopefully we get good numbers there," he said.
