Competition chairman Kevin Dellar confirmed the competition would be on March 13, 2011.
The event has been in recess since 2005 due to drought and low water levels in the Wimmera River.
More than 2200 anglers from throughout Victoria took part in the last competition.
Horsham angler Neil Delaney has been a regular competitor.
"I've fished in it every year it's been run except one," he said.
"I've made some great friendships being part of it, so it is great that it is back."
Delaney said he would fish with his grandchildren in the competition next year.
Laharum fishing enthusiast Geoff Winfield also welcomed the return.
"It's a great thing for Horsham," he said.
Winfield has competed in previous events and said he hoped to take part next year.
"If I'm around I'll have a go," he said.
Mr Dellar said organisers had been overwhelmed with support.
"The continued support from the community has been a real driving factor in relation to getting this up and running again, once we ticked all the boxes it was really exciting to know we could move forward," he said.
ANGLERS have reported a disappointing start to the opening of the Murray cod season.
The season opened on Wednesday last week after a three-month fishing ban.
Horsham angler Tony Lawes spent four days fishing in the Murray River at Mildura unsuccessfully trying to land a Murray cod.
"There is just too much water," he said.
"They have 50,000 megalitres a day going through the river."
Lawes said he would now wait until after Christmas for his next Murray cod fishing trip.
HORSHAM Angling Club will host a Christmas competition on Sunday.
Club secretary Gary Anson said it would be at the Wimmera River in Horsham.
He said the club would take registrations from 7am with weigh-in before 1pm at the club's Sawyer Park clubrooms.
He said a meal would follow the weigh-in and presentations, and he asked all participants to bring a plate of food to share.
