NATIMUK shooter Alethea Sedgman will shoot for Australia at the Asian Youth Games in Singapore.
Sedgman, 15, has been selected to join the Australian junior team to compete against Asia's best junior shooters from July 25 to July 30.
It will be Sedgman's first trip overseas and she said she was excited about the opportunity.
``I don't know what to expect,'' she said. ``The Asian shooters train every day and are very good. But I think I will be able to lift my performance to match their standard.
``I don't know much about what it will be like but I am expecting it to be pretty hot over there.''
Sedgman learned of her selection while shooting at the Arafura Games in Darwin earlier this year.
``One of the Australian shooting coaches told me I had been selected,'' she said. ``It was very exciting for me because I haven't left Australia before.''
Sedgman will leave the Wimmera on July 19 to attend a team training camp in Brisbane before setting off for Singapore.
``They usually have a few Olympians at these camps,'' she said. ``It is pretty intimidating to see an Olympian shooting alongside you because they are so good.
``If they miss a shot they really focus on fixing what they are doing wrong.
``I like to think that I will pick up a few things from them.''
Sedgman, a Horsham College student, has increased her training this year and has also started regular sessions at the gym to improve her fitness.
``I have also been doing some extra training at Horsham Rifle Range,'' she said.
She will compete in the 40-shot air-rifle competition and the women's three-position event, which involves 20 shots from standing, kneeling and prone positions.
Sedgman also headlined a strong performance from Horsham Smallbore Rifle Club shooters at the Victorian State Championships at the weekend.
Sedgman won gold medals in the 20-metre and 50m sub-junior, 20m junior and 50m D Grade open competitions. She also won the sub-junior, junior and D Grade aggregate gold medals and won a silver medal in the 50m junior competition.
``I thought I would do well in the sub-junior event,'' she said. ``But I was a bit surprised to do so well in the junior and open events.''
