RACV insurance claims show that 28 claims occurred from cars hitting animals in Halls Gap, 24 in Horsham and 19 in Stawell in 2011.
Heathcote and Bendigo were the top rating towns. Ballarat also rated in the top 15.
The most frequent animals to cause motor vehicle accidents are kangaroos, followed by dogs and wombats.
Cats, cattle, foxes, horses, birds, deer and rabbits are the other animals on the list.
RACV has had more than 10,300 claims for animal-related accidents in the past three years.
RACV insurance general manager Paul Northey reminded motorists to be cautious on the roads, particularly with the onset of shorter daylight hours.
"From the start of April through to the end of winter, commuters are often on the roads at dawn and dusk, when animals are more active and venturing out in search of food and water,'' he said.
Mr Northey said total repair costs for all kangaroo-related accidents was nearly $7 million, making an average cost of $3230 a claim.
"Crashing into a medium to large sized kangaroo not only causes serious vehicle damage, it can also injure the driver and passengers,'' he said.
Mr Northey said motorists should be aware animals could unexpectedly run onto the road.
He said people should also be aware that animal-related accidents could easily happen in residential development areas.
"To help prevent animal-related incidents, be careful when driving on both urban and rural roads because animals can be unpredictable, especially when dazzled by headlights,'' he said.
