Warmer summers for the Wimmera in 2012

THE Wimmera experienced warmer summers and a cooler winter than average this year.

Bureau of Meteorology statistics showed January was the warmest month, with an average of 31.2 degrees Celsius.

The average January temperature for the past 15 years is 30.9.

January 2 was one of Horsham's hottest days for the year, hitting 42 degrees.

But November 29 was the warmest day for the year, reaching 42.3 degrees.

December 2011 and January, October, November and December of this year were all warmer than average.

June, July, August and September were all below average, with June 21 providing the coldest day for the year, with the temperature reaching only 9.5 degrees.

Horsham residents experienced a chilly -3.5-degree minimum temperature on May 21.

May also claimed the highest rainfall in a month for 2012.

Horsham received 53 millimetres for the month.

December ended with just over 15 millimetres of rain for the month and a mean temperature of 28.8 degrees.

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a warm day today with light winds during the afternoon.

Sunny days are forecast for the first few days of the new year, with temperatures expected to reach high 30s by the end of the week.
