A golden milestone for the Hommelhoffs

HORSHAM couple Ian and Lorna Hommelhoff will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary tomorrow.

The pair commemorated the milestone by having a small family dinner with their three children.

Mrs Hommelhoff said she and her husband were 'chalk and cheese'.

"We are just very different people he is interested in sport and is good at every sport he plays and I am not into that at all," she said.

"It could have been a case of opposites attracting."

Mrs Hommelhoff said honesty was the key to a long and successful marriage.

"We have always, sort of, argued and said what we wanted to one another without being offended," she said.

"I think being able to do that is probably the key."

Daughter Donna Winfield said the pair was family-orientated with 11 grandchildren aged between eight and 20.

"They have been wonderful role models for my brother Phil, sister Joanne and myself," she said.

"Dad was sport-orientated so he would watch us play sport and now has the pleasure of supporting his grandchildren in their sporting endeavours.

"They met when they were quite young and we always tease mum that she followed dad around the footy field.

"It is amazing to achieve 50 years of marriage and we are very proud of them."
