A POLICE pursuit on the Sunraysia and Henty highways reached speeds of up to 155 kilometres an hour on New Year's Eve.
Beulah Leading Senior Constable Shayne Riggall said CCTV recorded a man stealing a Holden Commodore at Robinvale before he led police on a dangerous, high-speed pursuit.
The pursuit involved Horsham, Speed, Hopetoun, Beulah, Warracknabeal and Minyip police.
Police are still searching for the driver, a Portland man, 40.
Members identified the man about 7pm on Monday, while breath-testing drivers on the Sunraysia Highway at Lascelles.
Police pursued the driver through Hopetoun, Rosebery and west of Beulah.
Leading Sen Const Riggall said police stopped the pursuit after 15 minutes because the public might have been in danger.
He alleged the pursued driver reached speeds of up to 150kmh in 100kmh zones and up to 155kmh in 60kmh zones.
Police found the driver's abandoned car on New Year's Day on the Henty Highway south of Brim.
Police were also involved in a second, unrelated pursuit at Warracknabeal , which ended in the arrest of two youths, 17.
