THE Stawell Wildcats are still searching for their first win after an emphatic 103-46 loss to Country Basketball League powerhouse Mt Gambier Lakers at Bern Bruning Basketball Stadium on Saturday night. The South Australian-based side was far too strong for Trevor Holmes' men, blowing the Wildcats apart after quarter-time to hand them their 12th loss for 2012-13.
Stawell could only manage a combined total of 16 points for the second and third quarters, while Lakers star Simon Berkefield had a night to remember at the other end of the court.
Berkefield scored a game-high 32 points for the ladder-leaders, with Jak Ryan, 14 points, Matthew Markiewicz, 11, and Matthew Berkefield, 10, also reaching double figures.
Jarred Ohayon continued his sensational season to once again top score for the visitors with 16 points. Ohayon has played every game for the Wildcats this season, averaging 14.7 points a game.
Joel Freeland was also impressive with 10 points, while Shane Field scored seven.
The Wildcats have two more chances for a breakthrough victory in 2012-13.
They take on Portland Coasters at Stawell Leisure Complex on Saturday night before travelling to Hamilton to play the Hurricanes on January 19.
Horsham Hornets had a bye at the weekend.
