What are human rights?

Looking at Keith Lockwood's words last week (editorial Mail-Times December 31) I had to ask myself what are 'human rights'?

It is obvious in parts of the world like Syria they do not exist.

Plus, as far as the United Nations are concerned, those people are just cannon fodder to be eliminated by Assad.

Forgive me for asking but did not the old League of Nations fail under similar circumstances?

Human rights need all countries and all races, creeds and religions to fight for this belief or the UN is a total waste of money.

It brings me to another point, Australia has just spent a lot of money to get a seat on this non-effective, complacent organisation.
