Cash for show, field days site

FACILITIES will be improved at two Wimmera show sites after the events received money from the State Government.

Member for Lowan Hugh Delahunty announced on Tuesday that Horsham Agricultural Society would receive $8658 while the Wimmera Machinery Field Days site at Longerenong would receive $7467.

The field days money will help upgrade showers.

Agricultural society president Jo Lane said the money was the 'best thing' that had happened to Horsham Show in a long time.

The society will spend the money on modernising electrical systems at Horsham Showground.

"Some of our buildings still do not have safety switches," Ms Lane said.

"This grant means that we can install safety switches, so if something goes wrong a circuit breaker kicks in. We will also be able to offer more facilities for campers who visit Horsham Show.

"These are things you can't really see electrical works but it means a great deal in terms of safety and what we can provide for show patrons."

Ms Lane said she was still 'over the moon' about the money.

"To receive this amount of money means an awful lot," she said.

Ms Lane said works would be done in time for a dressage festival at the showground at Easter.

The organisations received the money through the government's 2012-13 Agricultural and Pastoral Society Grants Program. Show societies must provide $1 for every $2 contributed by the government.
