Three-way race to Horsham pennant finals

ONLY one finals spot remains up for grabs in the Horsham Sports and Leisure Central Wimmera Tennis Association's pennant division after round 15.

With three rounds left before the start of finals competition, Horsham Lawn Savage, Central Park Red and Horsham Lawn Bardell are in a three-way race to claim fourth place on the ladder.

Lawn Savage is in the box-seat to take out the last finals spot, sitting 10 points clear of Central Park Red in fourth position.

However Savage has the toughest run home of any side, playing the top three teams on the ladder in its final matches.

It has not beaten any of the top three sides this season.

Meanwhile, the Parkers have a much easier draw, playing the bottom three teams.

Bardell needs to win all three of its matches and hopes other results fall its way if its to have any chance of playing finals.

Savage player Graeme Wood said his team was prepared to fight for the last finals spot.

"We're well aware of how tight it is for fourth spot," he said.

"Our team has gotten better as the year has gone on.

"Hopefully we can pinch a win somewhere along the way."

Wood's team will play at Kalkee this weekend, while Central Park Red takes on Haven in Natimuk.

Top side St Michaels plays Lawn Bardell at home and Drung South hosts Central Park Blue.

The finals schedule is more settled in A Special competition, with the top four teams on the ladder all assured of a place in the post-season.

Drung South will travel to Brimpaen for a top-of-the-table clash, while Noradjuha will look for its second win of the season against Horsham Lawn O'Connor.

Central Park takes on Horsham Lawn Massey in the final match of the round.

There will be more scrambling for finals places when A Grade competition continues this weekend.

With only one-and-a-half games separating first from fourth on the ladder and Central Park knocking on the door in fifth spot, all teams will be keen to ensure they don't miss out.

The Parkers will try to put pressure on the top four with a win over Haven and Drung South can claim top spot with a win over last-placed Homers.

Horsham Lawn takes on St Michaels, while Laharum hosts Quantong.

Kalkee has the bye.

B Special action sees Haven Black trying to sure up a finals spot against intra-club rivals Haven Green, Drung South Horsham Lutheran takes on Horsham Lawn, while Laharum Blue travels to Natimuk.
