Horsham family devastated after stray dog kills pet rabbits

A HORSHAM family has been left devastated after a stray animal attacked its two pet rabbits.

The Loft family returned home on Sunday after a weekend away to discover that the rabbits' hutch had been 'hacked at' with one rabbit dead and another missing.

Mother Linda Loft believes a dog killed the rabbits Buzz and Ninja because of dog faeces found in the backyard.

"They were really cute and they were part of our family," she said.

"They should have been safe in their hutch.

"It has been pretty upsetting for all of us but particularly for my youngest daughter because they were really her rabbits.

"She actually wanted to get a dog until now because she loves animals."

Mrs Loft warned people to keep their dogs locked up to prevent another attack on Horsham's pets.

"I just want to highlight to people that they need to lock up their dogs and be responsible," she said.

"I don't want other children or families to go through what we have gone through.

"It was clearly ferocious with the way it attacked the cage so what would have happened if there had been a child around?"

Daughter Brooke Loft, 8, said she missed Buzz and Ninja, which she had started training to do tricks.

"They were playful, fluffy and really cute," she said.

"I wanted them to go through a log in the backyard and to do jumps."
