Quality field for title race

HORSHAM'S Blue Ribbon Raceway will host another massive weekend of racing with 72 street stocks nominated to contest the Horsham Auto Wreckers Victorian Street Stock title.

Reigning Victorian Champion Anthony Beare will launch his title defence against a stellar field that includes newly-crowned National Street Stock champion Robbie Faux, former National Champions Brad McClure and Mark Jennings, along with past Victorian and South Australian champion Mick Dann, and past Western Australian champion Daniel Pidala.

With Beare holding every state title, which had never been achieved in the 47-year history of Speedway Sedans Australia across any category, he will be one to contend with.

South Australian brothers Mark and Steve Gartner have looked good on the Blue Ribbon track all season, winning the Street Stock 1000 in November.

Wimmera-based drivers Richard Bansemer, Luke James, Josh Wirth and Michael Hayden will be keen to exploit their local track knowledge to try to keep the trophy on home soil.

Given the calibre of the field assembled, it is a difficult assignment to just highlight a handful of drivers who could visit the winners' circle on Sunday night.

The title winner will need plenty of luck along with skill on his side to come through and take the all-elusive number one spot.

The support from drivers has been overwhelming with a field boasting entries from every state and territory racing this weekend, with teams travelling up to 4000 kilometres for the event. With most drivers coming fresh off the National Title at Mt Gambier last weekend, the pressure will be on to keep both driver and car going after what has undoubtedly already been a big couple of weeks.

Drivers will battle it out over five heats three tomorrow and two on Sunday with C-Main, B-Main and A-Main finals on Sunday.

Racing will start tomorrow at 5pm and 1pm on Sunday, with gates opening two hours before racing.
