A DIMBOOLA family has lost its mother and son after they were both killed in a single vehicle accident at Pimpinio.

The son, a learner driver, was driving east along on the Western Highway at 8.30am when the car veered off the road and crashed into a tree.
The son, 19, and his front seat passenger, his mother, 46, died at the scene.
His father, 50, was in the backseat and suffered life-threatening injuries.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

Police, paramedics and State Emergency Service crews attended the crash.
The east-bound lane was closed until 12.15pm.
