Pouliot's debut fiction novel 'Write About Me' is about a missing Australian teenager in the late 1980s.
She used the 26-year-old mystery of Ursula Dianne Barwick as inspiration for her novel.
Channel 9's Mornings program will air an interview with reporter MaryAnn Harris today that explores the far-reaching and long-term impacts when someone goes missing.
Pouliot and her mother, Dianne Panov, appear in the interview, filmed in Kings Cross where some of the novel is based.
Pouliot said Kings Cross was the last place where family could trace Ursula.
She reportedly visited the police station in 1988 to ask about employment with a family friend who worked at the station.
Pouliot said the television filming was a fantastic experience.
"MaryAnn Harris and her crew, Terry Ross and Will Brincat, were an absolute delight to be around and they were also sensitive to the close personal subject we were covering," she said.
"It was a big decision to share my personal story about Ursula when I released my novel. But I am so pleased I did.
"What I really hoped to achieve was to find more answers about what happened to Ursula and every day I'm learning something new.
"I am extremely grateful to MaryAnn and Mornings for giving me an opportunity to share this story with such a large audience."
Pouliot released 'Write About Me' as part of National Missing Persons Week during August.
She said 'Write About Me' was available online at Amazon.
