A MAN remains in a critical but stable condition after an accident at an Stawell abattoir on Saturday.
Worksafe Victoria is investigating the accident at a Stawell abattoir, which left the man with critical head and spinal injuries.
The truck driver, 35, was unloading sheep from a truck via a loading ramp when the ramp collapsed about 2.25pm.
The man sustained head and spinal injuries after being hit with an unknown piece of equipment.
Paramedics took the man to Stawell Regional Health before he was transferred to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne.
WorkSafe spokesman Peter Flaherty said the workplace safety authority inspected the abattoir on Saturday and Tuesday.
“They are inspecting the training, supervision and maintenance records of any machinery involved,” he said.
“We are also speaking to witnesses that might have seen what happened so we can get a clear picture.
“We are investigating how that ramp fell and what exactly hit him.”
