KANIVA Raiders claimed their second consecutive premiership against Yanac Warriors in the Wimmera Hockey Association junior competition at the weekend.
It was the Warriors’ third consecutive grand final loss.
The juniors had trouble keeping the ball down on the bumpy ground at Anzac Park, Warracknabeal.
Kaniva had the first short corner of the game but it was the Warriors who scored first, after a scramble pick-up by Alex Magrath.
Kaniva Raider Lachlan Clark tried to level the scores but Warriors goalie Adam Ussing blocked the direct shot.
Minutes later saw Clark even the scores to be 1-1 at half-time.
Clark stood up in the second half to score the winning goal.
Yanac had a short corner just before full-time but a strong Kaniva defence stopped the goal.
Yanac’s Caitlyn Smith and Louise Bone played well across half-back, while Alex Pipkorn was strong in attack.
Honeyman also played well for the Warriors.
Kaniva Raiders’ ‘ninja’ goalie Brittany Keam also performed well, along with Luke Shalders, Brandon Rich, Lewis Bothe, Jayden Hendy and Clark.
Bone won the Peter Colbert Medal for her best-on-ground performance.
