NATIMUK music teacher Meg Sleeman has paid tribute to fellow teacher Marie Schirmer-Matthews of Horsham, who died last week.
Mrs Schirmer-Matthews died on Wednesday at the age of 81.
Ms Sleeman said it marked the end of an era.
“We moved here in 1989 and I probably met Marie through my friend Ann Dickson who was a singing teacher,” she said.
“All music teachers know the other teachers. Ann Adler, who taught me, died a few years ago.
“When you had questions you could always ask Ann or Marie. Marie was always happy to look up music or talk on the phone.”
Ms Sleeman said Mrs Schirmer-Matthews was also wonderful at passing on her knowledge and wanting to help other teachers.
“One of her great skills was choosing repertoire and what would suit her students,” she said.
“She knew the repertoire at all levels. She mentored generations of students.”
Ms Sleeman said Mrs Schirmer-Matthews had been moderately unwell for some time.
A funeral service for Mrs Schirmer-Matthews will be at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Horsham, at 1pm on Thursday.
