WIMMERA Parent Support Network has encouraged families to celebrate the work of Down Syndrome Victoria at a Step Up For Down Syndrome event on October 20.
Formerly known as the Buddy Walk, the event starts at 10am from Sawyer Park in Horsham.
Network co-ordinator Anne Page said there would be a warm-up at the soundshell at 9.45am followed by a three-kilometre walk along the Wimmera River.
“We would love Wimmera families to come down for a beautiful walk along the river and take part in a wonderful community event,” she said.
“There will be plenty of activities after the walk including music, face-painting, games and a sausage sizzle.”
Ms Page said the walk would raise money for Down Syndrome Victoria’s support services, information, training, professional development and advocacy.
“Early bird registrations cost $10 and will be open until Tuesday,” she said.
“All those who register online will receive a pedometer so they can count their steps as they walk. Registrations on the day start at 9am.”
Every year, between 45 and 65 babies are born in Victoria with Down syndrome.
“Step Up For Down Syndrome is an opportunity for Wimmera people to celebrate and make an impact for people living with Down syndrome,” Ms Page said.
She said more information and online registration was available online at www.stepupfordownsyndrome.org.au.
