CENTRAL Wimmera Clay Target Club will host the Central Wimmera and Grampians Classic two-day shooting event at the weekend.
Country Victoria’s biggest two-day shoot will bring more than 120 North West Zone shooters to the region for their chance to win more than $12,500 in prizes up for grabs.
The North West Zone covers from Horsham to Cohuna and Maryborough to Mildura.
Classes for the competitions include high guns, overall, AA, A, B, C, womens, veterans and juniors.
Club president Craig Kelly said everything was set for another exciting tournament.
“The grounds are immaculate and there’s been hundreds of hours of work going into getting it all ready,” he said.
“If we can get some good weather at the weekend it would be fantastic.”
Kelly believes the massive prize pool will give the event a massive ‘wow factor’ and bring some exciting shooters to the Wimmera.
“Prizes have gone from $6000 two years ago to $8000 last year and now more than $12,500,” he said.
“We’ve got the kindness of our sponsors to thank for that.”
Australian representative and Wimmera Sports Star of the Year nominee Ash Bolwell will be one to watch, as will fellow national shooter, Hamilton’s Roger Duthie.
A large number of Central Wimmera members will compete at the
The youngest of them is Lachie Wilde, 14, while Geoff Strauss is the oldest at 83 years old.
“One will be shooting in the junior division and the other in veterans,” Kelly said.
Shooting starts at 10am on both days.
