ARARAT'S outdoor Olympic swimming pool has a second chance after the city council agreed to save it.
Council decided to keep the pool at its monthly meeting on Tuesday night.
It had originally voted in September to demolish the pool, which had been closed since 2011.
But there was community outcry about the impending demolition, with Ararat residents taking to social media to voice disappointment and outrage.
The residents had previously formed a Save Our Pool committee in 2011 to advocate for council to redevelop the pool.
More than 300 people attended Tuesday night's meeting.
Cr Gwenda Allgood put forward a notice of motion to have council's decision rescinded at the meeting.
Mayor Ian Wilson said many residents had approached council to ask them to reconsider the demolition.
He said council would now seek more information about further use of the site.
Cr Wilson said the pool would remain closed for the immediate future and the subject was a matter of further investigation.
