THE future of Rupanyup’s nursing home looks positive, after it received a $200,000 State Government grant.
The grant will go towards maintenance such as repainting, new carpet and to replace and repair furniture.
Yarriambiack Shire Mayor Kylie Zanker said the news was fantastic.
“I’m blown away,’’ she said.
“I’m really stoked for the community – it’s fantastic news for them.’’
Residents expressed their fears for Dunmunkle Health Services’ Stonehaven Nursing Home at a meeting in Rupanyup last month.
Many said they were concerned the State Government might close the ageing high-care nursing home because of negative discussion about its viability during community consultations.
Cr Zanker said the ‘mini-upgrade’ seemed a positive step for the nursing home.
“It’s wonderful – it’s improving the quality of life of the residents,’’ she said.
“It’s a wonderful move and will instil positivity in the community.’’
Member for Swan Hill Peter Walsh said the funding was important for maintaining the nursing home’s amenities.
“Community members residing at the nursing home will appreciate the upgraded amenities which will support the high quality care and services provided by staff,’’ he said.
“As our population is rapidly ageing, we are committed to maintaining access to high-quality and safe public sector residential aged care services.’’
