ST BRIGID'S College’s Monday Munchies program is regularly feeding the Wimmera’s young people, six months on from its inception.
The program is a joint initiative between the school, Wimmera Uniting Care, the Salvation Army and Wimmera School Focused Youth Service and supplies lunch to people up to 25 each Monday.
Teacher Lesley Lannen said 12 to 15 people attended the lunch each week and as a result, they were becoming more connected with the community.
“The people who come are becoming more relaxed and interact more socially,” she said.
“They are becoming more comfortable and talking more.
“Our main focus is still to get people there regularly.''
Mrs Lannen said Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning students helped organise the lunches.
She said the program was travelling along nicely.
“We are happy with how it's running and the VCAL students have been fantastic,'' she said.
“It is an ongoing process and we hope to run the program as long as we can.
“It’s happening, it’s out there and it’s having a positive effect.”
