PAUL Brooks will coach Donald’s senior football side in 2014.
The former Donald junior, who coached Wimmera Football League side Horsham RSL Diggers the past two seasons, said it was a matter of lending a helping hand.
“The club was after a senior coach and I knew I was going to do something there – I just didn’t know what,” he said.
“They’ve had a bit of a horrid run the past couple of seasons and wanted someone to help get them back on track.”
Brooks left the Diggers at the end of the 2013 season.
He travelled from Donald to Horsham during the year after buying Donald Hotel.
The dual Dellar Family Medallist, who will take over from co-coaches Thomas Bell and Brendan Jennings, said he still had the passion to coach and was plotting a rise up the North Central Football League ladder.
“It’s all about improving on last year and getting the club back to where it used to be,” he said.
Jennings has parted ways with the club, but Brooks is hopeful Bell will remain at the club.
Glenn Wyatt will return to Donald after a stint as Rupanyup playing-coach.
Brooks said fellow Panther Nathan Sachse was also ‘right to go’ and the club was in talks with other players.
Wyatt and Sachse finished first and second respectively in the Panthers’ best and fairest last season and will give the Royal Blues a massive boost.
Donald lost Blake Grant, James Burke and Darcy Harrison earlier in the month to Minyip-Murtoa.
Donald will start pre-season training on November 19.
