A MIX of experience and youth will represent Wimmera-Mallee Cricket Association at the Western Waves Festival of Cricket Twenty20 competition.
Wimmera-Mallee will be one of seven cricket associations from western Victoria to converge on Hamilton at the weekend.
President Bernie Orr said the association had made a concerted effort to enter its best representative side in past years.
He said the team would play no-holds-barred cricket against some of the powerful southern cricket associations.
“We tried to get a mix of experience and we’ve tried to promote younger talent and guys who have a flair for this sort of thing,” he said.
“We want them to cast natural inhibitions aside and get them to play with their natural flair.”
Wimmera-Mallee will play against West Wimmera Cricket Association along with a team from Horsham District Cricket Association.
They will also face squads from South West Cricket Association and Warrnambool and District Cricket Association.
Orr said the tournament was a good opportunity for Wimmera-Mallee cricketers to challenge themselves against some of the best statewide competition.
He said the team had depth and experience and would not be intimidated by the strong associations it would face.
