NATIMUK and Horsham Saints will start an early-season battle for top spot on the Horsham Cricket Association under-16 ladder on Saturday.
The Saints and Rams both posted big first-up wins against Rup-Murtoa and Blackheath-Dimboola respectively and can take the early front-runner mantle with a win in round two.
Both teams boast plenty of firepower, with Rams opener Kyle O’Connor and Saints Sam Leith and Thomas Wentworth fresh from half-centuries.
With both teams posting solid batting totals, the match could be decided by which club bowls better.
Rup-Murtoa will look to rebound from its heavy loss to the Saints against Jung Tigers at Murtoa. None of the Rup-Murtoa batsmen made it to double-figures, which is something they will desperately want to rectify against the Tigers.
Jung is also without a win after losing to West Wimmera Cricket Association in the first round.
It will hope Tyler Puls can replicate the form that saw him score 39 in the first innings with four boundaries.
Blackheath-Dimboola will host West Wimmera in the final match of the round, hoping to avoid conceding a large total for the second match in a row.
The Blackheath-Dimboola bowling attack managed just two wickets in a first-innings drubbing at the hands of Natimuk and must contain the talented young West Wimmera line-up to have any chance of succeeding.
