HORSHAM Saints Red came within a whisker of winning a thrilling contest against Jung Tigers in round one of under-14 action last week.
The Saints lifted themselves off the mat after Tigers opening bowler Chris Eagle rattled the stumps of Saints openers Zac Hamerston and Nic Caris in his first spell.
Will Tickner and Tom Butler held the Tigers bowlers out with great strokeplay, with Butler’s impressive shot selection through the covers a highlight.
Matt Roberts’ catch off Brenton Hallam’s bowling – 1-6 from two overs – ended Tickner’s innings on 12.
Laharum batted first in its close one-day match against Dimboola.
Laharum was in trouble early, losing three wickets in four balls, but steadied the ship when Will Griffiths and Cooper Tyler dug in.
Dimboola’s Will Barber and Daniel Polack got off to a great start and scored quickly.
This week’s derby between Saints Red and Saints Black at Coughlin Park promises to be a tight contest.
Natimuk will welcome the Blackheath crew to Natimuk Showground and Rup-Murtoa will travel to Laharum.
In the final game, Jung Tigers will go to Dimboola Memorial Secondary College, which should be a high-scoring match.
