McDonald was selected for the Victorian regional state team after an impressive performance in Tennis Victoria’s Foundation Cup.
The Wimmera team made history at the cup – contested by under-13 female teams from country Victoria’s 11 tennis regions – by winning it for the first time.
Steffi’s strong play at the cup and good results in other tournaments such as finishing runner-up at the Bendigo International Pro junior tournament caught the eye of state selectors.
The Fed Cup Foundation Interstate Challenge will be played at Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club in Melbourne in January.
McDonald will travel to Melbourne next month for a team induction meeting and will receive an official Victorian uniform.
She said she was looking forward to representing the Victorian side.
“I’m excited – the best part is just to be playing against the best players from across Australia,” she said.
“It will all be a pretty good experience for me.”
McDonald said she had never represented Victoria before.
She said she did not know who the rest of her state team-mates would be.
It has been a big week for McDonald, who was also part of the Horsham's St Brigid’s girls cricket team that won the state final of the Milo T20 Blast School Cup at the MCG on Wednesday.
